Cape Breton West Aquatic Centre Society

About the Project

We are a group of volunteers committed to realizing our community’s vision of an indoor, local pool and recreation centre to serve all residents and visitors in western Cape Breton Island. This year-round community hub will make aquatic recreation more accessible for  approximately 10,000 residents.

Our children have little opportunity to learn to swim. There is a high burden of chronic diseases in western Cape Breton. And, our adult population has few options for regular exercise in the winter months.

The Cape Breton West Aquatic Centre project will address all of these problems, and more.

It will provide many education, health, and recreation programs, year-round.

It will be energy-neutral, generating as much energy as it consumes, and be a model for other future development projects.

It will provide possibilities for adding needed community services, such as a daycare, by the offering of multi-purpose spaces and rental areas.

It will attract young families to our communities and provide employment.

It will be something to be proud of, a place to have fun!
