To whom it may concern,
Regular moderate physical activity has been shown to be a major determinant of health and well-being. Moderate physical activity significantly decreases the risk of many common chronic illnesses and effectively supports mental health and a sense of well-being. Having an aquatic facility in our area would be a valuable asset to our population. It would be a safe and pleasant way for people to remain physically active throughout the year and therefore improve their quality of life. Exercises done in water offer an excellent cardiovascular workout while having a very low impact on joints. It is an ideal way for people with arthritis, sore joints and back pain to remain physically active. It also significantly improves mobility, strength and agility in people of all ages but particularly in seniors. As our population in rural Nova Scotia ages, it is critically important to promote healthy lifestyle habits that will maintain our residents' health, wellness, social independence and productivity.
